    About Perception Change Counselling

    Counsellor

    About Me

My career has spanned over two decades within healthcare and education. I have dedicated my professional life to supporting individuals in their journey toward independence, well-being, and personal growth. My experience began in the NHS where I gained valuable insights into the transition from general care to independent living.

Over the years, I have worked in various sectors, from supporting individuals with learning disabilities and mental health conditions to assisting those with neurological disorders and acquired brain injuries.

My passion for fostering independence led me to spend 11 years in the Independent Living sector, where I developed a deep understanding of autism and the unique traits that shape each individual's experience. Later, I worked with children and young adults with Reactive Attachment Disorder, gaining profound insights into how early life experiences impact development and psychological well-being.

In my years working and learning in Neurological Care, I had the privilege of working with individuals affected by multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, personality disorders, and other complex conditions. The fulfilment of assisting individuals through their challenges inspired me to take on a more educational role, where I spent two years developing care assistance strategies and supporting new professionals in the field.

Currently, I contribute to the NHS within Practice Education & Development, facilitating essential learning and development in healthcare. I have supported many different kinds of healthcare professionals in their learning and development, ensuring they gain confidence in their practice.

My journey has naturally led me to person-centred counselling, where I integrate this way of being with my extensive experience with compassion, empathy and a uniquely individualised approach.

With qualifications in both person-centred counselling and a foundation in pluralistic counselling skills, I am committed to creating a supportive and empowering space for individuals navigating their personal challenges.

My background in healthcare and education provides a unique perspective, enabling me to connect deeply with clients and support their journey toward self-discovery and healing

    Substance misuse/Addiction

Person-Centred Counselling offers a non-judgmental and compassionate space for individuals struggling with substance misuse. Rather than focusing on the addiction itself, this approach sees the person behind the behaviour, recognising that substance use often stems from emotional pain or unmet needs.

By providing empathy, acceptance, and a genuine therapeutic relationship, I aim to help individuals feel safe, heard, and valued.

This supportive environment allows clients to explore their experiences, rebuild self-worth, and move toward healing at their own pace.

Person-Centred Counselling empowers individuals to understand themselves more deeply and make positive changes without pressure or judgment.

The number of sessions is completely down to you, the client. However, they can be from 1 to 12 for short to medium-term work, once per week, and long-term, where they can last over a year but be less frequent as required by you, the client.

The length of time it takes to see results from counselling sessions with Perception Change Counselling varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy.

Perception Change Counselling would need a minimum of 48 hours' notice of cancellation for a refund to be applicable due to the short period to offer the space to another client.

I am a fully qualified professional counsellor and registered with a variety of governing bodies in the counselling field. I have had extensive training from two Universities and a charity environment and a wide variety of experience working with individuals.

Perception Change Counselling provides counselling services for individuals aged 18 years and above. I am not insured to work with individuals younger than this.
