About Perception Change Counselling

Counsellor

About Me

Hi, I’m Gordon — a qualified person-centred counsellor with over 20 years of experience in healthcare and education.

I’ve spent my career supporting people through all kinds of life challenges, from mental health and learning disabilities to brain injuries and neurological conditions.

Over time, I developed a deep understanding of autism, early life trauma, and how our experiences shape who we are.

Alongside counselling, I also support staff development in the NHS, helping others build confidence in their care.

What’s always driven me is a passion for helping people grow, heal, and feel heard. In counselling, I bring compassion, empathy, and a down-to-earth approach to create a space where you can explore whatever’s on your mind — without judgment.

Get in touch if you’d like to book a session or just have a chat. I’m here when you’re ready.

A small selection of what counselling can help with

Counselling offers a space of empathy, acceptance, and non-judgment where you can explore anxiety, low mood, grief, stress, self-worth, life transitions, and feeling lost or stuck. It’s a chance to be heard, understood, and supported as you gently move forward.

Anxiety counselling can help you overcome fear, stress, and anxiety.

I will provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behaviour, and develop strategies to manage your anxiety.

Anger is not something to fear but to understand, counselling can help you become aware of where the anger comes from and how to manage and control your anger in healthy ways.

I have worked with anger in many different health settings and as a therapist I would provide acceptance and support to help you identify the root causes of your anger, explore and evolve your coping skills, and improve your relationships with others.

Being in a low mood or clinically diagnosed with depression, can be a challenging time in life. Counselling can help you overcome feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and despair.

I will provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behaviour, and develop strategies to manage your depression.

Grief can arise from many kinds of loss: the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, loss of health, identity, a job, or life as you once knew it. Whatever your experience, your grief is valid.

Counselling offers a safe, supportive space where you can express and explore your feelings without judgment. Together, we can gently make sense of what you’re going through, gain insight into how it’s affecting you, and begin to find ways of coping that feel right for you.

Grief looks different for everyone there’s no right or wrong way to feel. I’ll work alongside you with empathy and acceptance, supporting you as you navigate life after loss, at your own pace.

Person-centred counselling supports personal development by fostering self-awareness, confidence, and emotional growth.

In a safe, non-judgmental space, individuals explore their values, strengths, and goals, building resilience and healthier coping strategies for life’s challenges.

This empowers them to trust their decisions, enhancing overall well-being and satisfaction.

Person-Centred Counselling offers a non-judgmental and compassionate space for individuals struggling with substance misuse.

Rather than focusing on the addiction itself, this approach sees the person behind the behaviour, recognising that substance use often stems from emotional pain or unmet needs.

By providing empathy, acceptance, and a genuine therapeutic relationship, I aim to help individuals feel safe, heard, and valued.

This supportive environment allows clients to explore their experiences, rebuild self-worth, and move toward healing at their own pace.

Person-Centred Counselling empowers individuals to understand themselves more deeply and make positive changes without pressure or judgment.

Person-centred counselling eases work stress by offering a supportive, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel heard and empowered.

Through empathy, it encourages self-awareness and resilience, helping individuals navigate workplace challenges with confidence and healthier coping strategies.

Trauma counselling offers compassionate support to help you gradually process and heal from the effects of traumatic experiences.

I am a qualified therapist who uses person-centred techniques in a safe and nurturing space, allowing you to explore your feelings at a pace that feels right for you.

Healing from trauma takes time, and I will be here to support you as you develop coping strategies that foster resilience and emotional well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at perceptionchangecounselling@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The number of sessions is completely down to you, the client. However, they can be from 1 to 12 for short to medium-term work, once per week, and long-term, where they can last over a year but be less frequent as required by you, the client.

The length of time it takes to see results from counselling sessions with Perception Change Counselling varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy.

Perception Change Counselling would need a minimum of 48 hours' notice of cancellation for a refund to be applicable due to the short period to offer the space to another client.

I am a fully qualified professional counsellor and registered with a variety of governing bodies in the counselling field. I have had extensive training from two Universities and a charity environment and a wide variety of experience working with individuals.

Perception Change Counselling provides counselling services for individuals aged 18 years and above. I am not insured to work with individuals younger than this.

Perception Change Counselling online sessions are convenient however, technology can be troublesome and may stop working during these sessions. I will honour the session if this happens however this will have to be at a later date that suits.

Once you have booked a session that best suits you, a confirmation email will be sent to confirm your booking. A short time after, you will receive an email containing bank details to either transfer the payment or a payment link.
